About us

Our Approach

Urban Sparrow Trust is a small, founder-led conservation initiative focused specifically on reversing the decline of house sparrows in urban areas.

Our approach is practical and evidence-based. Rather than broad campaigns, we concentrate on measurable habitat improvements, installing sparrow terrace nest boxes, encouraging native planting, and supporting responsible urban biodiversity management.

As the initiative grows, we aim to build a volunteer network and develop partnerships with schools, residents, housing providers, and local authorities.

Our Mission

House sparrows were once one of the most common birds in Britain. Their decline in towns and cities reflects the loss of nesting spaces and suitable habitat in modern urban environments.

Our mission is to:

  • Restore safe nesting opportunities

  • Improve urban habitat through native planting

  • Encourage community participation in conservation

  • Operate responsibly within UK wildlife law

We believe that small, practical actions carried out consistently can make a meaningful difference to local bird populations.

How We Operate

Urban Sparrow Trust currently operates as an independent, founder-led initiative. We are in the early stages of development and are actively seeking:

  • Volunteers

  • Schools interested in biodiversity projects

  • Community groups

  • Housing providers

  • Local conservation partners

Our long-term goal is to transition into a formally registered UK charity with appropriate governance and oversight.

Founder

Urban Sparrow Trust was established by its founder in 2026 with the goal of taking direct, practical action to support house sparrows in urban environments.

As the initiative develops, we aim to build a small volunteer committee and formal governance structure in preparation for charitable registration.

Transparency

Urban Sparrow Trust is a developing conservation initiative and is not yet a registered charity. We are committed to operating transparently and responsibly as we grow.

For injured or distressed wildlife, we work with and refer to licensed wildlife rehabilitators.
